Six law enforcement officers in St. Mary’s received Officer of the Year awards Tuesday during a ceremony attended by the county’s commissioners and other officials at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in California.
The honored officers included Cpl. Douglas S. Mills of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Correctional Officer 1st Class Jonathan B. Rosado of the St. Mary’s Detention Center, Trooper 1st Class Matthew J. Pitcher of the Maryland State Police, Officer Aaron A. Brewster of St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Public Safety Office, Officer 1st Class Aaron Saunders of the Maryland Natural Resources Police and Deputy Fire Marshal Advanced Caryn L. McMahon of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Department of Aging & Human Service’s Triad/Seniors and Law Enforcement Together Council co-sponsored with the commissioners the county’s 12th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
In addition to the awards, the St. Mary’s County ceremony pays tribute to officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
