When I first read the letter that [Tommi] Makila wrote [“Think about what Jesus would do regarding gay marriage], I wondered what Jesus she was talking about. It surely is not the one we read about in the Bible.
She says, “When I think about Jesus' personality, teachings and deeds, I have a difficult time imagining him collecting names for a petition against the gay marriage law and denouncing the 'lifestyle' of his gay brothers and sisters.”
Jesus said this about marriage in Mark 10:6-9: “But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh: so they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Do you think He would be OK with gay marriage? Don't bet your soul on it.
Jesus loves people and has great compassion for them as demonstrated by His many miracles we read about in the New Testament — feeding the hungry, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, causing the lame to walk and the dead to rise, etc., but not once does He condone sin. Yes, homosexuality is a sin. It is against the law of God. 1st Corinthians 6:9-10 says: “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy nor drunkards nor revilers nor swindlers will enter the kingdom of God.”
Rather than imagining what Jesus would do, it might be more profitable to listen to what Jesus said in Luke 13:3: “No I tell you, but unless you repent you shall all likewise perish.”
