Gail Reinhardt, 57, the administrative director of the Laurel Board of Trade, died May 16 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a brief battle with cancer, city officials announced Thursday morning.

“A lot of people don’t know what Gail meant to the Board of Trade,” said Matthew Coates, board chairman, who said Reinhardt had been on the board for five years. “She was the one keeping things together, organizing our events like the Main Street Festival, Riverfest, all those things.”

Reinhardt told The Gazette in March that she was hoping to organize a Laurel business expo in the coming years, to highlight local businesses in the city.

“It’s a huge loss, not just for her work on the board,” said City Council President Donna Crary. “She was a great citizen and such a hard worker. She’ll be sorely missed.”

Reinhardt was also a member of Stitching Pretty, LLC, a company of needlework artists designing and selling charts and needlework pieces.

A memorial service will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion, Post 60 at 2 Main Street in Laurel. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the “Friends of Gail Reinhardt” memorial fund, to cover medical and funeral expenses.
