Kristen Bell has launched GoWaiter in Waldorf. The location is the first in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

GoWaiter is a restaurant delivery service. The company has found success in home and business meal delivery, including hospitals, hotels, gyms, police and fire departments and military bases, according to a news release announcing the company’s April 19 opening.

“The convenience of ordering and providing payment online has endeared the company to parents of college students, families with a sick loved one and friends of new moms who may be located out of state, but still want to ensure delivery of quality, hot meals at special times during the year,” the release states.

Bell, a former staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, had been looking for a business to launch since being honorably discharged.

“I am the GoWaiter customer,” she said. “I want to place an order and purchase online, then have it delivered to my home. For my family, there has to be several choices. This is the business model that GoWaiter has perfected and it is attractive to me, my friends, co-workers and neighbors.”

Managing partner Christopher Bell, also a U.S. Air Force veteran, added, “It’s not just about planning for dinner. ... For us, nothing begins to wind down until our meal is finished, making it extremely important to our family dynamics.”

The business of restaurant delivery is growing: “From curbside to cyberspace, operators are also delivering more choices to their customers when it comes to takeout, curbside pickup, drive-thru, catering and delivery options … and 54 percent say they would use delivery if offered,” according to the National Restaurant Association.

Entrepreneur magazine named GoWaiter to its list of 98 Brave New Franchises in its September 2011 issue. The company currently has operations in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, Connecticut, Colorado, Georgia, Mississippi and Maryland.

The company serves ZIP codes 20601, 20602, 20603, 20613, 20617, 20622, 20637, 20646, 20659, 20675, 20677 and 20695.

GoWaiter has partnered with Casey Jones Pub & Grill, Chili’s, Chevys Fresh Mex, Danny’s Sub Shop, HoneyBaked Ham of Waldorf, La Tolteca Mexican Restaurant, Lefty’s Barbecue, The Prime Street Grille and WOW Cafe & Wingery.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled at 10 a.m. May 11 at 2 Post Office Road, Suite 3B.
