The state playoff draw was announced Wednesday and here is a look at some of the regions and the match-ups in each. All records reflect just those games used for regional seeding consideration.

4A WestIn this all-inclusive Montgomery County region, Walt Whitman (15-2), Quince Orchard (13-4), Col. Zadok Magruder (11-4) and Walter Johnson (12-5) earned the top four seeds, respectively. Whitman, Quince Orchard and Magruder earned first round byes while Walter Johnson opens Friday against Bethesda-Chevy Chase (12-6) in what could be the best early match-up in this region.

The Barons would have been the fifth seed if all teams were seeded according to record instead of just the top four.

The other first round contests consist of Gaithersburg (7-10) at Clarksburg (1-15), Montgomery Blair (6-10) at Richard Montgomery (8-8), John F. Kennedy (2-13) at Northwest (10-6) and Thomas S. Wootton (10-6) at Winston Churchill (9-6).

Whitman faces the Clarksburg-Gaithersburg winner; Magruder competes against the Northwest-Kennedy winner; and Quince Orchard meets the Churchill-Wootton winner during Monday's quarterfinals. The winner of Walter Johnson-B-CC and Richard Montgomery-Blair games will also square off Monday.

4A NorthMontgomery County's other four 4A teams, Sherwood (8-7), James H. Blake (8-7), Springbrook (6-9) and Paint Branch (9-7) did not earn one of the top four seeds that were instead claimed by Baltimore's Poly (13-2), Dulaney (13-5), Westminster (12-6) and Mergenthaler (9-5), respectively.

Blake will host Perry Hall (10-6) Friday in a first-round contest with the winner taking on Westminster Monday. Paint Branch travels to Kenwood (8-9) and will face Dulaney Monday with a win. Springbrook will play at Catonsville (7-9) with the winner taking on top-seeded Poly. Sherwood received a first-round bye and will play Mergenthaler Monday.

The Raiders will play host to the winner of Bladensburg-Charles H. Flowers in a quarterfinal game Monday.
