The 8th Annual MS Women on the Move Luncheon on April 25, co-chaired by Marci Brand of Bethesda, raised nearly $250,000 for the National Capital Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The luncheon was held at the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington, D.C. and was attended by nearly 600 guests.
Brand became involved with the Society when she was 11-years-old, after her mother was diagnosed with MS. Several years later her brother was also diagnosed. The Society provided programs and services to help the Brand family overcome many of the obstacles associated with MS.
MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. It is an unpredictable, often disabling disease which interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.
