A Hyattsville man is dead after a sport utility vehicle struck him in Lewisdale Saturday night and fled the scene, said Prince George's County police.

Police say Samuel Diaz, 28, was hit by what they describe as a silver sport utility vehicle with front end damage about 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of University Boulevard East, according to Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman.

Diaz died from his injuries at a local hospital and there were no crosswalks in the location Diaz was hit, according to Copeland. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
