Bowie chamber to host awards lunch May 11

The Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce and the city’s economic development committee will hold their annual business awards luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 11 at West Bowie Village Hall, 13711 Annapolis Road.

Awards will be given for small business of the year, business of the year, entrepreneur of the year, green business of the year and community service. The guest speaker will be James C. Dinegar, president of the Greater Washington Board of Trade.

New fashion retailers open at Mall at Prince Georges

Fashion retailers Madrag and Dazzle have opened at the Mall at Prince Georges in Hyattsville.

Madrag is next to Xcape and Leather Man, while Dazzle is next to Men's Wearhouse and Tux and Downtown Locker Room.

Doctors Community Hospital to host golf tournament May 14

The Doctors Community Hospital Foundation will host its 17th annual golf tournament at 9 a.m. May 14 at the Country Club at Woodmore, 12320 Pleasant Prospect Road, Mitchellville. Proceeds support the remodeling of the Lanham hospital's surgical services unit, according to foundation statement.

Women Business Owners conference is May 15

Tower Federal Credit Union honored by chamber

The Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce of Laurel named Tower Federal Credit Union of Laurel its Large Business of the Year.

The announcement was made during the chamber's 65th annual meeting Friday.

Net loss grows at Vocus in first quarter

Vocus of Beltsville, which provides cloud marketing software, reported that its first-quarter net loss widened to $10.8 million from $1.9 million in the prior-year quarter. But revenues rose to $34.9 million from $27 million.

“The first quarter went extremely well for us as we did better than expected on revenue and earnings and achieved some major operational milestones,” CEO Rick Rudman said in a statement. “We added a record number of new customers, significantly expanded our sales capacity and made excellent progress on integrating our recent acquisition of iContact.”
