Thanks to the combined efforts of the Elderly Ministries of Rockville and Clark Construction in Bethesda, Leonard Bruce, of Rockville, will have a newly remodeled bathroom to suit his needs as he ages.

Bruce contacted the Elderly Ministries, an organization that serves seniors with limited income, to notify the staff of a hole in his shower enclosure. Elderly Ministries did not have enough funding to remodel the bathroom, so staff members called up Clark Construction for assistance.

"I was able to reach out to them and they agreed to come out and look to see what they could do," said Barbara Smith-Brady, program director at Elderly Ministries. "They're footing the entire cost with volunteer professionals."

Clark Construction drew up plans for the bathroom, which included widening the doorway for wheelchair accessibility, installing a comfort height toilet and putting in a three-piece encasement wall into the shower. Workers, too, fixed the plumbing and drain in a second hallway bathroom.

The work spanned from Thursday through Saturday.
