Romans from the first century and soldiers from the War of 1812, the Civil War and the Gulf War will descend on the same plot this weekend: the grounds of the Marietta House Museum in Glenn Dale.
On Saturday and Sunday, about 40 groups of re-enactors from periods spanning almost 2,000 years will dance, dine and discuss with visitors the periods of history they represent.
The 20th annual Marching Through Time event is expected to draw as many as 700 people, said Mary Haley-Amen, the museum’s director. Poor weather during last year’s event decreased turnout.
Haley-Amen said she hopes visitors learn about the War of 1812 in its 100th anniversary year and “experience a little bit of hands-on history.”
Admission is $5 per person; children younger than 5 are free.
More parking and a shuttle service are available from the Glenn Dale Community Center.
