Jonathan Godfrey, 16 and a member of Olney Boy Scout Troop 264, has collected more than 2,800 pairs of shoes that will be donated to Soles4Souls for his Eagle Scout project. He is continuing to collect new and gently-worn shoes through June 1.

The mission of Soles4Souls is to collect new shoes to give to those in need and to support micro-business efforts to eradicate poverty.

Local collection sites include Sherwood High School, Belmont Elementary School, Greenwood Elementary School, Rosa Parks Middle School, B’nai Shalom of Olney, KinderCare, Joe’s Ride and Jeremy’s Run. Shoes also may be dropped off at Godfrey’s home, or he will pick them up from residents living in the Olney and Brookeville area.

Godfrey also welcomes monetary donations, which will be used to ship the shoes and for other supplies needed for the project.
