Montgomery County police are providing few details about the circumstances that led to a shooting in a house near Winston Churchill High School and St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac on Sunday night.

The victim, a 21-year-old man, spoke with detectives this afternoon while recovering in a hospital, telling them the suspect confronted him at a residence in the 8500 block of Victory Lane sometime before 11:48 p.m. Sunday, said county police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Innocenti.

The men began to struggle, and the suspect, who had a gun, shot the victim at least once, Innocenti said.

“After speaking with the victim, detectives now believe the victim was targeted and that the shooting was not a random event,” she said. “Detectives determined after speaking with the victim that there was a struggle at the door that continued into the home, but intent or motive is still under investigation at this time.”

The victim is expected to make a full recovery, Innocenti said.

Innocenti also could not comment on whether the suspect, who is only being identified as a black man, was known to the victim.
