New Carrollton police are helping coordinate donations to cover funeral costs for a 2-year-old boy they say was killed in front of his New Carrollton home Saturday after he ran to catch a ball in the street and was struck by a moving vehicle.

Ethan Tyson Guzman of the 6400 block of 85th Avenue was playing with two other children in his yard around 3 p.m. when the collision occurred, said Sgt. Sonya Rorls, a Prince George’s County police spokeswoman. Guzman was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, and Rorls said he is not facing any charges following a collision analysis by police.

A residence phone number for Guzman’s family could not be located Sunday.

New Carrollton Police Chief David Rice said he visited the boy’s parents Tuesday morning to see if there was anything the city could do to help the family.

Rice said that anyone wanting information about the funeral arrangements or to make a donation to help cover funeral costs is welcome to call the city police department at 301-459-0142 and ask for Administrative Assistant Daisy Vivar.
