Wrestler of the Year

Kyle Snyder, Good Counsel: He's unbeaten in two high school seasons. In fact, he's never been taken down in two high school seasons. That's how remarkable Good Counsel's Kyle Snyder has been. At National Preps in Pennsylvania, Snyder took gold with two pins, two technical falls and a major decision and improved to 116-0 in two seasons.

Coach of the Year

Rob Wendel, Springbrook: Wendel led his team to an undefeated regular season and the top seed in the 4A/3A West Region Duals with a roster that included only two wrestlers who had experience in the sport prior to high school. He has won more than 200 matches in his 17 seasons at the helm.

First teamColin Kowalski, Georgetown Prep, Freshman, 106

Won the IAC championship and three matches at National Preps.

Eddie Kennedy, Clarksburg, Senior, 113

Finished third at the 4A/3A Maryland state tournament (38-3).

Eli Bienstock, Quince Orchard, Senior, 120

Won fourth county and regional titles took fourth-place at states (40-2).

Matt Kelly, Good Counsel, Sophomore, 126

Sophomore went 53-13 and won a WCAC title.

Daniel Sanchez, Georgetown Prep, Junior, 132

Captured IAC title and fifth place at National Preps.

Hunter Sutton, Winston Churchill, Sophomore, 138

Won second straight Maryland 4A/3A title, gunning for two more (38-2).

Michael Sprague, Georgetown Prep, Sophomore, 145

Won IAC title and took fourth place at National Preps.

Kellen Staton, Seneca Valley, Junior, 152

Rebounded from difficult state semifinal loss to take third (31-5).

Robert Winning, Poolesville, Senior, 160

Finished third in the state in his senior season (41-2).

Troy Murtha, Georgetown Prep, Junior, 170

Dominating junior placed third at National Preps in Pennsylvania.

Spencer Neff, Good Counsel, Junior, 182

Won the Maryland Independent Schools title and was fifth at National Preps (51-10).

Elad Covaliu, Walter Johnson, Senior, 195

Only a four-year wrestler, Covaliu won the 182-pound state title (43-1).

Kyle Snyder, Good Counsel, Sophomore, 220

Doesn't get much better than 61-0 and a National Preps title.

Ryan Schneider, Georgetown Prep, Senior, 285

Area's top heavyweight won IAC title and finished fifth at National Preps.
