With the first round of the high school basketball playoffs complete, the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association released the schedule for the region quarterfinals. Girls basketball teams play on Monday, boys on Tuesday. The winners advance to semifinals on Wednesday and Thursday.

The four region champions in each bracket advance to the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland, College Park for the state semifinals.

In the Frederick County boys’ brackets, Middletown (12-11) travels to fourth-seeded Oakdale (14-8) on Tuesday. Oakdale won both games against the Knights this year by comfortable margins, but every coach will tell you it's difficult to beat a winning team three times in the same season. No. 3 seed Tuscarora plays host to the team that won the Montgomery County 3A/2A Division, Watkins Mill. However, the Wolverines have not won a game this year outside of their conference foes.

For the girls, North Hagerstown (13-9) plays at Urbana (18-4) at 7 p.m. Monday in a 3A West Region matchup and South Carroll (14-8) plays at No. 3 seeded Catoctin (15-7) in a 2A West Region game.
