Riverdale Baptist School graduate and current University of Maryland junior Tianna Hawkins was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Hawkins, a native of Clinton, shot better than 72 percent from the field, averaged 18.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per contest last week. In a 64-56 win over No. 22 Georgia Tech, Hawkins was 11-for-13 from the field; four of her made shots were jump shots from around the floor. Her 23 points against the Yellow Jackets were a new career-high and she added two blocks and two assists with nine rebounds.

Hawkins followed up with 14 points and six rebounds in a 91-71 win over Clemson. In Sunday's 76-74 loss to No. 6 Miami, Hawkins was 8-11 from the floor with 10 boards. She totaled 18 points for her 10th double-double of the season. Hawkins leads the nation in field goal percentage at 63.3 percent and leads the conference in rebounding with 9.4 per ACC game.

This is the junior's first weekly honor from the conference since she was named Rookie of the Week on Feb. 21, 2010.

Maryland (21-4, 8-4 ACC) is ranked No. 8 in both the latest Associated Press poll and the latest ESPN/USA Today Division I Top 25 Coaches' poll.
