Students who entered the annual Johns Hopkins Montgomery County Campus High School Art Contest celebrated their work and learned who the winners were at the college’s Rockville campus Feb. 2.
The theme of this year’s show: “The Next Horizon” drew 91 canvas entries and 63 for the photo division. Students form 14 schools participated.
Winners from the canvas category, which includes paint and mixed media, are: first place, Christina Lockwood, and second place, Molly Swyers, both from the Visual Arts Center, Albert Einstein High School, Kensington, and, third place, Deena Ameen, Northwest High School, Germantown.
Honorable mention in that category went to Cherrie Wang, Wootton High School, Rockville; Catherine Miranda, Northwest High School, and Gabriela Avalos, Einstein.
For photography, first place went to Gabriella Brock, and second place to Allison Banavong, both from Northwest High School and third place to Alexandra Dotti, Gaithersburg High School.
Many of the art works are on display Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. until March 23 in two Johns Hopkins campus buildings: the 9605 Building Atrium, 9605 Medical Center Drive, and the A&R Building Café, 9601 Medical Center Drive. The campus entrance is on Broschart Road because of construction.
