Brittney Waters, a 2009 graduate of Charles H. Flowers High School and Lincoln University student, recently received a $5,000 grant from the 2012 Dwight David Eisenhower HBCU Fellowship program given to Lincoln's Center of Excellence in Business and Entrepreneurial Studies.

The grant, with $17,500 grant distributed in total, is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration's Technology Partnership Programs.

Waters, one of three students to receive a grant, got a chance to attend the annual Transportation Research Board conference in Washington, D.C., held from Jan. 22 to 26.

Waters had to write a report on the topic "promoting bicycle usage as a beneficial mode of transportation" as a requirement for consideration of the award.
