Eight Maryland students who won top honors at the annual National History Day competition held at the University of Maryland, College Park in June 2011 were honored by Maryland officials at the State House in Annapolis on Monday, Jan. 30.

Three students from Bethesda were among the student winners. They are:

Michael Keen, a homeschool student, and Camila Uechi and Kane Herrick, both seniors at Bullis School in Potomac.

Michael received a Bronze Medal for his paper “Lost Opportunities for Peace: Vietnam, 1945-1950.”

Camila received a scholarship to the Chaminade University, Honolulu, for the website she designed “The Bay of Pigs: A Diplomatic Turning Point.”

Kane was a finalist at the national competition for his website “Iran Hostage Crisis: America’s Failed Diplomacy.”
