A bicyclist was struck by a Metrobus Monday morning near the University of Maryland, College Park, police said.
The accident happened just before 9 a.m. on Paint Branch Parkway near the intersection with U.S. Route 1, said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County spokesman. The bicyclist, a 19-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tippett said it was uncertain whether the bicyclist was a student at the university.
Cpl. Larry Johnson, another Prince George’s police spokesman, said that the accident is still under investigation and it is unclear what caused the collision.
“For motorists, especially around the school, be aware that there are bicyclists,” Johnson said. “For bicyclists, make sure that you’re wearing the proper gear and you have the proper equipment on your bike. Be aware of your surroundings.”
