Prince George’s County police still are determining the cause of a fatal car crash Thursday in Temple Hills.

At about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Effie Lee Hart, 68, of the 1800 block of Valley Terrace in southeast Washington, D.C., was approaching the intersection of Brinkley Road and Mark Drive in Temple Hills when her car left the road and struck a utility pole, according to police spokesman Cpl. Clinton Copeland.

Copeland said Hart was traveling westbound on Brinkley Road in a 1992 Buick Roadmaster.

He said Hart was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead Friday.

Copeland said Hart sustained serious injuries from the crash, but did not know if the injuries led to her death, or if Hart was experiencing a medical emergency at the time.

He said no one else was injured in the crash.

Copeland said police are waiting for the autopsy results from the state medical examiner’s office.
