A jury found an Alexandria, Va., man guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder for shooting a 23-year-old Lanham man in April, said a spokeswoman for the Prince George’s County state’s attorney.
Alusine Kanu, 21, shot Olusen Fashina, a student at the University of Maryland, University College, during a fight at a house party in Glenn Dale on April 17, said Nancy Lineman, the spokeswoman.
The fight, which began over spilled drinks, moved outside when those involved heard a gunshot. Once outside, Kanu shot Fashina in the back, according to a release from the county state’s attorney’s office.
Kanu also was found guilty of using a handgun during a violent crime, Lineman said.
When Kanu is sentenced on Feb. 23, he could face as many as 50 years in prison, Lineman said.
Kanu’s lawyer, listed in online court records as John Christopher Belcher of Oxon Hill, did not immediately return a call Tuesday evening.
Contact information for Fashina’s family could not be found.
