Defensive Player of the Year

Michael Moore, DeMatha

Senior defensive end was an All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference first-team selection after registering 89 tackles, including 17 for losses and nine sacks to go along with two interceptions and four forced fumbles. Will continue his football career next fall at the University of Virginia.

Tamlin Antoine, Roosevelt: Senior defensive back helped lead stingy defense with 28 tackles and six interceptions.

Brandon Banks, Gwynn Park: Senior defensive back/receiver, Vanderbilt recruit, had 45 tackles and eight interceptions, and also had 762 receiving yards.

Cornell Duncan, Crossland: Senior defensive back helped lead way as Cavaliers doubled last seasonís win total.

DíSean Cummings, Douglass: Junior defensive lineman had breakout season with 109 tackles and seven sacks.

Austin Jacques, Flowers: Senior linebacker had 123 tackles with 11 sacks, four fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles.

Shaneil Jenkins, Suitland: Senior defensive lineman was a force for the Rams with 109 tackles, including 44 for losses or no gains, 27 sacks and five fumble recoveries.

Matthew Paul, Douglass: Junior linebacker had 146 tackles and six interceptions, leading the Eaglesí defense into the 2A state final.

Keith Payne, Flowers: Junior defensive back registered 48 tackles, 10 interceptions and two fumble recoveries while breaking up 15 passes.

Shawn Petty, Roosevelt: Senior linebacker/quarterback, University of Maryland recruit, led the team in passing and rushing, but proved more valuable on defense with 49 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions.

DaJuan Randall, Surrattsville: Junior linebacker totaled 98 tackles and two interceptions, helping lead Hornets to a 1A South Region playoff berth.

Tre Smith, Wise: Senior linebacker registered 33 tackles and was a formidable presence on the Pumasí defense.

Joshua Thorne, Potomac: Senior linebacker had 50 tackles, eight sacks and three fumble recoveries, including one for a touchdown.

Brent Wilkerson, DeMatha: Senior lineman, Penn State recruit, had 58 tackles, including seven for losses, four sacks and two forced fumbles.

Tavon Young, Potomac: Senior defensive back, Temple recruit, had 25.5 tackles, 10 pass deflections and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
