Player of the Year
Teddy Gula
Linganore
Senior
Teddy Gula’s first goal with the Linganore High boys soccer team was a big one: the game-deciding tally against archrival Urbana, as just a freshman.
Gula has been the man ever since for the Lancers, and is The Gazette’s Player of the Year.
“He has helped raise the bar for success for Linganore soccer,” Lancers head coach Josh Gilmore said. “He is simply the best athlete I have ever coached. Teddy is the total package as a soccer player: amazing athletic ability, great technical skill, superior work ethic and top leadership skills.
“He will obviously be very hard to replace, but he has inspired a lot of young players in our program to try.”
A four-year varsity standout, Gula has been the linchpin in Linganore’s resurrection. He paced the Lancers in scoring as a sophomore and came on strong late last year in helping Linganore to the Class 3A West Region final. As a captain this season, he netted 21 of Linganore’s 60 goals
“My teammates have meant a lot,” Gula said. “At Linganore, it’s all about team chemistry.”
Gula has already committed to play next fall at the University of Vermont.
“I’m extremely excited,” he said. “I wanted to play Division I soccer my entire life. I’m really looking forward to it.”
