Search efforts resumed Sunday morning to find a Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission employee who has been missing from the Triadelphia Reservoir near Brookeville since Friday afternoon.

Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department Chief George Brown said rescuers resumed search efforts at 9 a.m. and will continue until dusk. Friday’s search continued until about 9 p.m., and resumed at about 9 a.m. Saturday.

Sandy Spring volunteer firefighters will continue efforts on water and land every day until the man is found, Brown said.

He declined to comment Sunday on whether rescuers believe the man may still be alive.

Brown said Saturday the employee was assigned to pick up deer carcasses by boat along the shore near the Greenbridge Recreation Area.

“Last night we found the boat that had run aground and his jacket in the water, so we will continue with our extensive search this morning,” he said Sunday.

On Sunday, WSSC spokeswoman Kira Lewis said she could not confirm the man’s identity at this time, but said the employee was part of a managed deer hunt. She said WSSC is unsure whether the man was lost on land or in the water.

The reservoir includes thousands of heavily wooded acres.

Friday’s search involved WSSC police, Montgomery County fire and rescue crews, Maryland Natural Resources Police, Howard County rescue units, state police, and regional park police on horseback. They also used dogs, boats, night vision equipment and a helicopter.

Brown said that divers, along with several boats provided by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and WSSC are part of the effort. In addition, a Department of Natural Resources boat with a side scan radar unit will assist in the underwater search.thogan@gazette.net
