Player of the year
Ryan Cole
Linganore
Junior
All year one name was found at the top of the leader board: Ryan Cole.
Nobody consistently carded lower scores this fall than the Linganore High junior, The Gazette's Player of the Year.
Back in early October, Cole torched Clustered Spires to claim his second Frederick County championship with a tournament record round of 65, two strokes better than Urbana's Chris DiSciullo. He posted a pair of eagles on his way to the title, which he also won as a freshman in 2009. A few weeks earlier, he shot a 76 to finish third at the District I Class 4A-3A golf tournament at Westminster National.
Cole shot a 69 on the opening day of the state golf tournament at the University of Maryland-College Park golf course to claim a share of the lead, and followed with a 77 during the final round to tie for third place. On the year, his 34.5 nine-hole average was two strokes better than the second-place finisher.
