The Covenant Life School girls volleyball program is the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference champions. Again.

On Tuesday, the Cougars swept Washington International School 25-22, 25-21, 25-13 at Model School for the Deaf. It capped their eighth consecutive postseason tournament championship and 10th straight regular season league title.

The first two sets were back and forth, but the third was all Cougars as junior Ellie Wikner's serving highlighted a 15-0 run.

Covenant Life finished the year with a perfect 14-0 conference record. During coach John Garrett's six-year tenure, the team has dropped just two conference matches.

“The conference is getting better and better,” Garrett said. “A lot more girls are trying out for club and we've encouraged them. … I continue to see the growth for us and [the conference] and just hope it continues.”

The school's dominance is expected to continue next season with the majority of its players returning, including junior outside hitter Caitlin Cooney and classmate setter Kelly McShea, the championship match's Most Valuable Player.

“We lose five seniors so it should be interesting,” Garrett said. “But we got a couple of really good players coming back.”

McShea, Cooney and Colette Kellen earned first team All-PVAC honors and Emily Scott and Lisa Morton were second team selections.
