Area hospitals, the county health department and about 40 doctors, nurses and dentists will give flu shots, test for diabetes, high blood pressure and HIV/AIDS, and offer dental care from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Arbor Community Center in Mitchellville.
Organizer Men Aiming Higher, a Mitchellville-based nonprofit, is expecting 1,000 people to attend its second annual Strengthening Families Health Clinic.
“It’s part of my mission to give back to those in need,” said Darryl Barnes, the president of Men Aiming Higher. “What I’m doing is providing free health care for a day.”
The organization has invited the residents of about 20 senior citizen homes as well as the nearly 4,000 people who attended the organization’s job fair last month, Barnes said.
Community members who attend the free clinic also can register to vote there.
