A Port Tobacco man who had been listed in critical condition since being struck in a hit-and-run accident while cycling earlier this month died Sept. 10 as a result of his injuries, police reported.

Thomas Mark Roepcke, 47, was found unconscious on the side of Chapel Point Road near its intersection with Taurus Lane in Port Tobacco around 3 a.m. Sept. 2. Investigators spoke to a witness who had seen Roepcke cycling south in the area about five hours earlier.

Police identified the driver, a 21-year-old Pomfret woman, Sept. 3 but have not released her name, Charles County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Evidence at the scene of the accident indicated Roepcke was hit by a silver car traveling north on Chapel Point Road. Investigators said the car suffered damage to its driver's side, including the side-view mirror, headlight assembly and windshield.
