Although 6-year-old Liam Quirk's favorite character from the movie “Transformers’’ is the Chevy Camaro car, Bumblebee, he was willing to lie Tuesday for a chance to sit inside a real-life one.
Quirk and other young residents of The Children's Inn a nonprofit pediatric treatment facility on the campus at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda - were treated Tuesday to a visit by the Saleen Mustang used to portray the character Barricade in the movie. Everyone, including volunteers and parents, were allowed to sit inside the car, but Jim Ortte of Arlington, Va. the owner of the car jokingly asked each child to first say that Barricade was his or her favorite part of the movie.
The Children's Inn spokeswoman Meredith Daly said such events always bring smiles to the children living there, all seriously ill children who are there to receive treatment available in few other places. She said the events provide a well-earned break from the day's medical treatments.
Ortte said he was just as delighted as the children at the Inn to come and showcase Barricade.
“Where else can you see a kid smile so much,” he said.
