Fullback helps Blake beat Northwest in overtime

Junior running back Tene Samuto had only nine carries, but made the most of them, gaining 182 yards and scoring four touchdowns in Georgetown Prep’s 41-6 season-opening football victory over Fork Union Saturday.
Samuto scored on runs of 3, 38, 62 and 9 yards. The Little Hoyas (1-0) did not score in the final quarter.
Dominic Bryan added 63 yards, also on nine carries, for Georgetown Prep.
James H. Blake 20, Northwest 14, OT
Junior fullback Will Scott scored twice, the second time on a 10-yard run in overtime to give James H. Blake High School a 20-14 victory over Northwest in a football game Friday.
Scott had 18 carries for 70 yards in the game. Senior William Sewell rushed for 68 yards and had the Bengals other touchdown on a 5-yard reception. Senior Justin Ingram added 54 yards rushing for Blake.
Joshua Gills scored twice for Northwest, both on pass receptions from junior quarterback Matty Callahan, who passed for 144 yards. Gills finished with 7 receptions for 93 yards.
Springbrook 13, Northwood 6
Northwood jumped out to a 6-0 lead over No. 10 Springbrook, but the Blue Devils rallied behind a 1-yard touchdown run by Brion Robinson and a 35-yard fumble return to avoid the upset.
Bethesda-Chevy Chase 20, Montgomery Blair 6
Two turnovers helped the Barons of Bethesda-Chevy Chase pull away from Montgomery Blair. Nick Halon returned an interception 38 yards and the Barons also recovered a fumble in the end zone to build a 20-0 halftime lead.
Senior running back Peter Gondor scored on a 5-yard run for Blair in the third quarter.
Col. Zadok Magruder 14, Walter Johnson 0
Magruder scored twice on short runs, one by Zavae Johnson, and the defense opened the season by posting a shutout of Walter Johnson.
The Wildcats earned only five first downs compared to Magruder’s 11.
Seneca Valley 24, Albert Einstein 6
James Jones-Williams rushed for 16 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Screaming Eagles to the season-opening win.
Seneca Valley quarterback Tanner Vallerly threw for 119 yards and sophomore Kevin Joppy returned a kickoff 90 yards for another score.
Senior running back Keith Gaye scored on a 6-yard run for Einstein.
Watkins Mill 42, Poolesville 12
Deontray George returned an interception 34 yards and a punt 61 yards for two of his three touchdowns in the Wolverines victory over Poolesville.
Watkins Mill running back Mike Offutt rushed 14 times for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Senior wideout Jonah Hessels caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Kirby Carmack for one of the Falcons’ scores. The other came on a 10-yard run by DeAndre Parrott.
Gaithersburg 35, Richard Montgomery 14
Trojans running back Solomon Vault rushed for 197 yards and a touchdown to lead Gaithersburg past the Rockets. Vault also scored on a punt return.
Gaithersburg quarterback Lincon Reyes threw for 141 yards, most of those passes going to Bill Brown, who finished with 87 yards receiving.
LaRon Thompson scored both touchdowns for Richard Montgomery and rushed for 92 yards.
Avalon 32, Bishop Walsh 7
Rachid Ibrahim rushed for 114 yards and two scores and Jacquille Veii added a pair of rushing touchdowns and a 79-yard kickoff return for a score to lift the Black Knights Friday night.
Avalon opened up a 20-0 halftime lead en route to the season-opening victory.
Churchill 40, Kennedy 0
Following a slow first quarter, the Bulldogs erupted for a total of three touchdowns in the second and third quarters to pull away from the Cavaliers in the season opener for both squads.
Senior running back Curtis Kamara rushed for 129 yards and two scores and senior quarterback Lansana Keita completed 11 of 15 passes for 197 yards and two scores to lead Churchill offensively.
