A Southern Maryland man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a Washington, D.C., man Monday evening in the Chapel Oaks section of Capitol Heights, according to Prince George's County police.
Michael Ricardo Cruz, 55, of the 44000 block of Blackistone Circle in Hollywood is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of Norman Francis Wood III, 40, of the 800 block of 51st Street Northeast, according to a police release.
At about 5:20 p.m. Monday, county police responded to a call of a shooting and found Wood dead from a gunshot wound in the 4700 block of Leroy Gorham Drive, police said.
Both men were arguing before Cruz shot Wood, but no information was available about the relationship between the two men and what led to the dispute, said Cpl. Evan Baxter, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Patrol officers stopped Cruz shortly afterward and recovered a handgun from his vehicle, the release states.
Details of the shooting are under investigation.
