The Damascus High School sociology class and Environmental Club are continuing their community service projects through the summer.
They are collecting old cell phones and unwanted eyeglasses.
The phones will be donated to Secure the Call, which gives them to battered women's shelters and senior centers for 911 calls.
Old prescription eyeglasses will be donated to the Lion's Clubs Gift of Sight program, which helps match prescription eyeglasses to people who cannot afford a new pair of glasses.
Teacher Robert Dickie is also collecting empty inkjet printer cartridges, aluminum can pull-tabs to be recycled by Ronald McDonald House Charities, which support programs for seriously ill children, and Campbell Soup Company product labels from items such as Campbell's, V-8, Swanson's Foods, and Pepperidge Farms crackers and cookies.
“You can help recycle-reuse-reduce and help save natural resources, the environment, and money for people in need, by getting involved and having your family, friends and neighbors collect and donate the above items,” Dickie wrote in an email.
Items may be dropped off at the high school main office. Mark them for Robert P. Dickie, c/o Damascus HS Sociology/Enviro Club.
