The Bowie Baysox will have three representatives in the Eastern League All-Star game, which will be played July 13 in Manchester, N.H. The league announced the all-star rosters on Wednesday.
Bowie, the Class AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will send catcher Caleb Joseph, center fielder Xavier Avery and left-handed relief pitcher Pedro Viola to the all-star game.
Joseph leads the Baysox with a .272 batting average and is third on the team in RBIs (29) and in home runs (6). He has thrown out nearly a third of the baserunners who have attempted to steal against him and has allowed just three passed balls in 379 innings.
Avery is tied for the team lead in stolen bases (21) and is hitting .268. Viola is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 27 innings over the course of 23 appearances. He made one appearance with the Orioles in late May, striking out two in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Baysox are in the midst of a seven-game road trip, which started with losses to Akron on Monday and Tuesday. After another game in Akron Wednesday, Bowie will travel to Binghamton, N.Y., to face the Binghamton Mets for four games starting Thursday. The team returns to Prince George's Stadium for a four-game series against the Reading Phillies starting July 4.
