Player of the Year

Ryan Burbrink, DeMatha: The Co-Player of the Year in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, Burbrink terrorized opposing teams on the base paths, at the plate and in the field. The center fielder posted a .432 average with 20 steals and 23 runs in his senior season and will attend Bowling Green to play football in the fall.

E Jay Baldwin, Bishop McNamara: Perhaps the most athletic center fielder in the county, Baldwin batted .366 with 16 runs, 14 RBI and 13 stolen bases in the middle of the Mustangs' lineup.

Chris Bate, Eleanor Roosevelt: The smooth-fielding junior shortstop led the Raiders in hits (28), runs (29) and RBI (26) and struck out only twice in 80 plate appearances. Committed only two errors.

Chase Brewis, Riverdale Baptist: The multi-talented sophomore pitcher/infielder hit .465 with 34 runs, 22 RBI and 14 steals to go along with a 7-2 record and a 2.40 ERA.

Andrew Byrd, Henry A. Wise: Led county pitchers in wins (8) and struck out 80 in 52 innings to help Pumas win the 4A South Region title.

David Carmen, Laurel: Dominant both at the plate and on the mound, the junior pitcher/catcher boasted a .574 average, a .918 slugging percentage and 29 RBI as well as a 1.54 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 45 1/3 innings.

Jamal Clark, Charles H. Flowers: The senior pitcher/shortstop went 5-2 and recorded 76 strikeouts in 47 innings.

Matt Chernesky, Eleanor Roosevelt: One of the more well-rounded players in the county, the senior pitcher/first baseman posted a 1.62 ERA and hit .414 with three home runs.

Matt DeFrank, St. Vincent Pallotti: A spark plug on offense and defense, the shortstop hit .419 with 38 runs, 29 RBI and 25 putouts and 71 assists in 197 innings.

Henry Faunce, DeMatha: The heavy-hitting first baseman had a .427 average with four home runs and a team-high 31 RBI.

Hanani Felton, Gwynn Park: A four-year starter, Felton dominated the County 3A/2A/1A League with a 7-2 record and hit .620 during the Yellow Jackets' 18-0 regular season.

Leandro Guzman, High Point: Considered by many to be the county's best public school pitcher, the junior struck out 90 in 48 innings and belted five home runs while hitting .538 with 33 RBI.

Zach Morris, DeMatha: The University of Cincinnati pitching recruit dominated the hard-hitting WCAC with a 1.21 ERA and 4-1 record.

David Webster, Bowie: The senior third baseman hit .473 with four homers and 26 RBIs, and provided a deft glove at the hot corner.

Tony Williams, Frederick Douglass: The senior anchored Douglass' dynamic offense by hitting .541 with 29 RBI, 44 runs and four triples.

Coach of the Year: Drew Gilliam, Henry A. Wise: Gilliam led the Pumas to the school's first 4A South Region title and first state semifinals appearance in his fifth season at the helm.
