I agree with Jack Martinelli's letter [“A taxpayer revolt in Rockville?” May 18] that city council member Piotr Gajewski's position on the Rockville budget is fiscally responsible.
If RedGate Golf Course cannot be operated at a break-even level, it should be closed and other options for the property considered, including recreational and environmental uses.
This will not deprive Rockville golfers close playing options because the county has nine golf courses, including Needwood, which practically backs up to RedGate.
Rockville will continue to have many budget challenges going forward, and we can no longer afford to subsidize an unprofitable golf course.
