Player of the Year

Mari KordellUrbana, Junior, Guard

The quarterback of the region champions, Kordell sacrificed her skills for the good of the Hawks, but still averaged 10 points and nearly five assists per game. Is being looked at by Ivy League programs.

Co-Coaches of the Year

Urbana/Gov. Thomas Johnson

Krivos led his squad to yet another state semifinal, posting a stellar record of 20-5. Whiten took a team that went 2-20 in 2008-09 to this season's Class 4A North Region title game and finished 18-7 overall.

First teamKashay Barnes

Frederick, Sr., Guard

A repeat first-team All-Gazette selection, Barnes tossed in over 13 points per game for the Cadets, who enjoyed a winning campaign this winter.

Shernise DisneyWalkersville, Sr., Guard

Tough-as-nails performer racked up averages of 15.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game for the Class 2A North Region semifinalists.

Rebecca HembyGov. TJ, Sr., Forward

Was one of the major cogs in the Patriots lineup this season, posting hefty averages of 17 points and 12 rebounds per contest. Will play Division I soccer at High Point Univ.

Kristin JuengerUrbana, Jr., Forward

Helped anchor the Hawks' frontcourt by registering a double-double in points and rebounds with 13.2 and 10.1, respectively.

Jacky KesslerMiddletown, Sr., Guard

Also an All-State player on the soccer field, the decorated all-around athlete averaged 16.8 points and 2.3 assists per contest, leading the Knights' offensive effortsthroughout the season.

Cara MasonUrbana, Soph., Guard

An all around backcourt player who could deliver both offensively and defensively, Mason averaged 11.1 points, 3.7 steals and 3.2 assists per game for the Hawks.

Maya OllieGov. TJ, Jr., Guard

Collected impressive statistics this season with 16.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the Patriots.

Rachel JohnsonFrederick, Jr., Guard

Was a stat-stuffer and key component for the Cadets according to head coach Keivette Hammond, tossing in 16.0 points per game to go with 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest.

Ruthie WheelerGov. TJ, Sr., Guard

Quick point guard was an outstanding distributor of the basketball this season with a whopping 8.4 assists per game. Also averaged 9.1 points and 4.0 steals per ballgame.
