Player of the Year

Mayowa Alli, Bishop McNamara: The defender was named the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Player of the Year after his stellar senior season. He was a team captain and has received interest from Bucknell University among several other colleges. McNamara coach Bob Nolte said Alli is the most secure defender in the area and that offenses routinely tried to attack away from him, calling Alli, "someone that can shut down an entire offense."

Coach of the Year

Michael Holt, High Point: Holt seems to have a knack for coaching his teams to success. Three years after receiving Gazette-Star Coach of the Year honors for leading the High Point girls' team, Holt pushed the High Point boys to a 4A South Region championship. The Eagles reached the state semifinals this season for the first time since 2003. Holt's cerebral approach helped the Eagles to a 13-3 record.

First Team

Eric Medrano, High Point: The senior striker makes his second appearance on the first team. He had 25 goals and 16 assists in 11 games this season. For his career, Medrano had 53 goals.

Joseph Sullivan, DeMatha: The senior goalkeeper blanked 12 teams and saved two penalty kicks in leading DeMatha to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title game.

Hector Iregollen, Crossland: The sophomore striker helped the Cavaliers to the No. 2 seed in the 3A South Region playoffs, leading the team with 16 goals and three assists.

William Gbelee, DeMatha: The anchor to the Stags' outstanding defense, the senior is a quick, strong player that helped engineer 12 shutouts and was a three-year starter.

Abdul Mamoud, Surrattsville: A prolific offensive player, the senior striker led the Hornets to the 1A South Region final by tallying 18 goals and nine assists.

Tobi Iguade, DeMatha: A senior captain and three-year starter, Iguade helped DeMatha control the midfield, scoring seven goals and adding six assists.

Olakunle Banjo, Largo: The Nigerian-born senior striker missed three games while trying out for Nigeria's U-17 national team. Though he only played 10 games, he registered 15 goals and added six assists.

Joseph Castillo, Bladensburg: The sophomore midfielder scored the Mustangs' only goal in their 4A South Region championship game loss to High Point.

Brian Graham, Bowie: One of the Bulldogs' all-time top players, Graham finished his career with 51 goals and 28 assists, including 15 goals and six assists this fall. He'll continue his soccer career next season at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Awet Gebrmedhin, Parkdale: Coach Dalitso Chinkhota called the junior defender "the heart and soul" of the Parkdale lineup. Capable of playing anywhere on the field, Gebrmedhin spent most of the season solidifying a defense that helped the Panthers go 9-3.

Jeffery Hopper, Eleanor Roosevelt: The senior midfielder had game-winning goals or assists in 10 of Roosevelt's victories this season. He had five goals and 15 assists, and his extraordinarily long throw-ins made the Raiders a threat whenever they had the ball in their opponents' end of the field.

Chris Vargas, High Point: The junior midfielder was the glue in the middle of the Eagles' offense, as he registered eight goals and a county-high 28 assists.

William Fisher, Eleanor Roosevelt: A three-year varsity starter, the senior defender held every player he marked scoreless this season.

Kossi Aziakonou, Central: The versatile senior co-captain missed four games with injuries, but was a huge force for the Falcons as they reached the 2A South Region title game. He split time between goalkeeper, sweeper and midfielder and had four goals and seven assists.

Orel Downie, Surrattsville; Chris Bonnell, Michael Beard and Adam Quigley, Roosevelt; Cesar Castro, Herman Keungwe and Javier Rodriquez, High Point; Alambi Clarke and Victor Hernandez, Bladensburg; Joshua Phillips and Patrick Thornton, Bowie; Brian Alvarez and Cody Albrecht, DeMatha; Matthew Michael and Max Allegro, McNamara; Sergio Iregollen and Holy Mbah, Crossland; Jonathan Sawah and Erick Perdomo, Parkdale; Jesse Lopez, Forestville; Kyle Curran, Pallotti; Jose Leiva, Laurel.
