Coach of the Year

Dondrell Whitmore, Sherwood, first year, Warriors' junior-varsity coach a season ago, stepped right into big time this season. Molded group of holdovers, JV call-ups and one transfer into true team that could win any type of game. Finished season with 15 wins in 16 games, including last nine in row, ending with Class 4A state championship game.

Player of the Year

Deontay Twyman, Sherwood, Sr., G, While scoring average (16.0 this season) actually decreased in each of his three varsity seasons, stepped up contributions in other areas. By season's end, was leading team in assists (7 per game) and checking other teams' best players. Saved best for last, capping career with brilliant 26-point performance in Class 4A state championship game.

First team

* Adrian Bowie, Montrose Christian, Sr., G, University of Maryland-bound combination guard averaged 16.2 points and 6.3 assists per game for mighty Mustangs (21-3).

* Troy Brewer, Montrose Christian, Sr., G, A true marksman from behind the three-point line, Brewer averaged 14.7 points per game. Produced seven three-pointers and 23 points against powerful Oak Hill (Va.).

* Jordan Clarke, Good Counsel, Sr., F, Inside-outside threat paced the Falcons with averages of 15.3 points and 8.5 rebounds to go along with two steals a contest.

* C.J. Garner, Springbrook, Jr., G, As Damascus coach Rick Riley said, ĎĎthe fastest guy Iíve ever seen with the ball in his hands.Ē Averaged 21.1 points per game for 19-4 Blue Devils.

* Jeremy Herring, Kennedy, Sr., F/G, Scoring machine, tallied 20 or more points in 17 games this season. His season average of 24.5 ppg helped the Cavaliers to a winning record.

* Maurice Pearson, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Sr., F/C, Ohio University signee led Barons with 14.3 points and 9.2 rebounds. Averaged 19.5 points in four playoff games leading up to Class 3A state title game.

* Donald Robinson, Magruder, Sr., G, Had to shoulder heavy scoring load for Colonels and did just that, averaging 17.7 points per game. Shooter and slasher, led team to Class 4A state runner-up finish.

* Garvey Young, Georgetown Prep, Jr., G/F, Silky-smooth, do-it-all wing led way in Prepís astonishing midseason turnaround, including nine-game winning streak to end season. Averaged 16 ppg, 7 rpg, 4 apg and 2 spg.

* Tory Wilson, Seneca Valley, Sr., F, Six-foot-4 forward enjoyed a breakout season, averaging a double-double (18.7 points and 15.8 rebounds) per game. His play brought the Screaming Eagles to within two points of a regional title.

Second team

* Dennis Bassich, Einstein, Jr., G, Gifted scorer, led Titans with 23.6 points per game.

* Aaron Bond, Georgetown Prep, Sr., G, Davidson-bound 6-foot-4 guard got it done in lots of ways 12 ppg, 6 apg, 6 rpg, 4 spg.

* David Campbell, Good Counsel, Sr., G/F, Versatile player averaged 12 ppg, 6 rpg and 4 apg.

* Austin Cooley, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Jr., G, Athletic 6-foot-4 guard did a little bit of everything, including averaging 13.2 points per game.

* Kevin Kennedy, Quince Orchard, Sr., F, Shooter deluxe helped the Cougars to the 4A West Region final, averaging 16.7 points per game.

* Wes Parker, Northwest, Sr., G/F, Sharpshooter went for 25 or more points in seven of final eight games. Averaged 20.5 ppg for season.

* Eric Pugh, Blake, Sr., G, Strong inside-outside performer led Bengals to the 4A North Region final. Averaged 14.1 ppg.

* Terrell Vinson, Montrose Christian, Soph., F, Six-foot-6 sophomore gave Mustangs a solid scoring (12 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg) presence.

* Christian Webster, Landon, Soph., F, Athletic youngster became one of IACís best this season, averaging 19.6 ppg and 11.2 rpg.

* Antoine White, Whitman, Sr., G, Picture of control and leadership, superb point guard averaged 10.1 ppg and 6 apg.
