Dana Ward

Sherwood, Jr., PPowerful southpaw crushed previous Sherwood single-season strikeout record with 256 en route to a 16-3 record and a 0.65 earned-run average. Held opponents to a .066 batting average, including 12 shutouts, 8 no-hitters, 1 perfect game and 4 one-hitters. Helped herself with a .404 batting average and 25 runs batted in.

Coach of the Year

Louie HoelmanBlair, 6th year

In six years has turned Blair into a power. Led Blazers to 16-2 record and the Montgomery 4A South Division title, their second division title ever and first since 2001.

First team

Grace BennettGood Counsel, Soph., Utility

Spent time in center field, in the pitching circle and behind the plate. Led team offensively with .360 batting average, including three home runs.

Rebecca EinsteinQuince Orchard, Jr., P

Tallied 180 strikeouts and a 1.20 ERA. Paced team at plate with .506 batting average.

Alice HardwickPoolesville, Sr., SS

Led Falcons to second 1A South Region final in three years with .500 batting average, including 6 home runs and 25 RBI.

Kathy HolonichSherwood, Soph., OF

Tracked down everything hit remotely close to her for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and hit .418 with 25 RBI.

Becca JacobsWatkins MIll, Sr., P

Physically and mentally strong, produced an 11-5 record with 159 strikeouts and a 1.00 ERA. Batted .365.

Amanda KibbeGaithersburg, Jr., 2B

Spectacular, highlight-reel fielder also led team with a .438 batting average.

Becca KirshnerGaithersburg, Soph., SS

May possess strongest throwing arm in county. Helped Trojans to 4A state tournament with stellar fielding and .420 success rate at plate, including 19 RBI and 5 HRs.

Katie ObalSherwood, Jr., C

Threw out 5 of 8 runners who dared to steal second and led team at plate with .541 batting average and 26 RBI.

Allison RubinBlair, Jr., OF

Speedburner extraordinaire tracked down just about everything hit in her direction. Batted .444 with 3 HRs, 18 runs scored and 12 RBI.

Sarah RumbaughBlair, Sr., OF

Blazers’ leadoff batter boasted .451 batting average and 12 stolen bases.

Ellen SmithDamascus, Jr., 3B

Tremendous all-around player had a .481 batting average with 5 home runs, 24 RBI and 23 runs scored.

Candace ThompsonRichard Montgomery, Sr., P

Wicked changeup helped rack up 167 strikeouts. Compiled 10-3 record and 1.21 ERA and led team at plate with .605 batting average, 28 RBI and 4 home runs.

Brittany WyattDamascus, Sr., C

Catalyst of 4A West Region finalist. Perfect fielding percentage with .333 batting average, including 17 RBI and 18 runs scored.

Taylor WyattDamascus, Fr., SS

Great range and consistency in the field (.943 fielding percentage). Strong at bat with .466 average with 22 RBI, 5 home runs and 29 runs scored.

Second team

nKim Bartlett (Good Counsel, Sr., P) Tallied 160 strikeouts with a 1.60 ERA to compile 11-9 record. Batted .290 with 17 RBI.

Emily Bosic (Damascus, Sr., 2B) Helped Swarmin’ Hornets to 4A West Region final with .316 batting average, 8 RBI, 17 runs scored and .962 fielding percentage.

Jacquie LeMar (Seneca Valley, Soph., OF) Impressive ability to run down whatever was hit her way. Batted .351.

Michelle Linford (Blair, Jr., P/SS) Versatile standout posted 8-1 record pitching, committed only one error at shortstop and led team in batting average (.491), RBI (23) and runs scored (22).

Susan Miller (Einstein, Sr., P) Large part of Einstein’s most successful season in more than five years. Racked up 129 strikeouts and led team at plate with .525 batting average, 4 HRs.

Kelly Morrow (Sherwood, Soph., OF) Speedy in field and around basepaths. Scored 19 runs with a .290 batting average.

Patsy Morrow (Sherwood, Sr., 1B) Great hands led to .984 fielding percentage. Batted .333 with 13 RBI.

Lanie Par (Holy Cross, Soph., P) Tallied 133 strikeouts in 88 innings of work and led team on offense with a .383 batting average.

Sarah Pierce (Blair, Sr., 1B) Clutch hitter batted .409 with 19 stolen bases and 18 runs scored.

Rachel Pozatti (Sherwood, Sr., 2B) Sported second-best batting average on team (.448), including 17 RBI. Skilled middle-of-the-field defender.

Amanda Ray (Damascus, Soph., SS) Dependable defensive player boasted .993 fielding percentage. Posted solid offensive numbers with .333 batting average, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored.

Avian Spinner (Springbrook, Sr., C) Impressive behind plate with .965 fielding percentage. Batted .321 with 12 RBI.

Megan Stewart (Richard Montgomery, Sr., C) Batted .408 with 9 RBI and 15 runs scored and posted a .978 fielding percentage.

Rachel Stream (Poolesville, Soph., 3B) Terrific defense at hot corner, plus hot bat — .354 batting average, .446 on-base percentage, 11 RBI, 2 home runs, 20 runs scored and 4 triples.

Stephanie Wood (Paint Branch, Sr., P/SS) Helped Panthers to 3A West Region final with .400 batting average, 17 RBI. Tallied 93 strikeouts en route to a 0.92 ERA.
