Coach of the Year

Sang Ahn

Blair, 1st yearIn his first year, Ahn took the defending-champion Blazers back to the title game with an almost entirely new starting unit. There, Blair avenged its only regular-season loss, defeating Sherwood, 3-1.

Player of the Year

Jay ChangBlair, Jr., Middle hitter

Chang’s hitting powered the Blazers all season, and he was the catalyst in their upset of Sherwood in the county championship game.

First team

Matt Lee, Churchill, Sr., Outside hitter

The Bulldogs’ ‘‘go-to” guy led them to county semifinals and was tops on the team in hitting and serving.

David Lloyd, Seneca Valley, Sr., Middle hitter

The 6-foot-3 hitter averaged four kills and five blocks a game for the Screaming Eagles.

Jeff Moy, Sherwood, Jr., Setter

Moy ran Sherwood’s offense to perfection and was in charge of getting ball to a diverse group of talented hitters.

Armando Rosso, Churchill, Jr., Setter

Rosso was the Bulldogs’ all-around specialist, helping them to 10 regular-season wins.

Vadim Rubin, Sherwood, Sr., Outside hitter

Rubin was the leader of high-powered offense, helping the Warriors to an undefeated regular season and a playoff run to the county final.

Ben Steinberg, Watkins Mill, Sr., Middle hitter

Big, tall, consistent force in the Wolverines’ lineup, totaling 144 kills and 60 blocks in the regular season.

Jonathan Yang, Wootton, Sr., Outside hitter

Yang was the player to stop in the Patriots’ offense, leading the team in kills and blocks this season.

Jeffery Young, Kennedy, Jr., Middle hitter

Two-sport athlete shifted from basketball to volleyball court and wreaked havoc on opponents, leading Kennedy to 11 regular-season wins.

Nima Zabihi, Rockville, Sr., Outside hitter

The Rams’ rock paced team by averaging almost four kills per game. Led Rockville to 11 wins and a berth in the county semifinals.
