I started working for The Gazette in 1986. Before then I was a candid photographer for a yearbook company in the D.C. area, photographing at local colleges including the Naval Academy and high schools including Gaithersburg. Back then The Gazette was a group of four local weekly papers based in Gaithersburg. I hoped working for a small weekly would eventually lead to working for The Washington Post. About five years later The Washington Post Co. bought The Gazette and we weren’t so small any more. I enjoyed getting to know and working with the people of Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village. The portrait of Gaithersburg Mayor W. Edward Bohrer, Jr. that is hanging in the city activity building is a photo I took of him for our election guide. I first met Sen. Nancy King when she was president of the PTA in Montgomery Village. I have won two Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association Awards, one in Montgomery County and one in Frederick County. When The Gazette expanded to Frederick County I moved up to that office and got to know the fine folks of Frederick County. I had already been working in Mount Airy for a long time. I have photographed at South Carroll and Linganore high schools for more than 20 years. Adults in Mount Airy remember being photographed by me when they were students. Now my work area covers Frederick County, Montgomery County, Prince Georges County and Annapolis. Once more I’m driving roads that I drove over 20 years ago. And now, my kids are in high school. The wheel in the sky keeps on turning.
