James Oakes, Professor of History and Graduate School Humanities Professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, explores emancipation and the end of slavery in his new book, Freedom National: The Destruction of Slavery in the United States, 1861-1865. Dr. Oakes will discuss his research at Cottage Conversations, a lecture series held at President Lincoln’s Cottage. Cottage Conversations offers relaxing evenings to socialize and learn something new about our 16th president.
