Please join us for a FREE film screening of Beneath the Blindfold followed by a Q&A with the directors. Beneath the Blindfold looks at the effects of torture on survivors' lives. Torture survivors know firsthand the destructive and long-lasting impact that torture has had on them personally, on their families and communities. In this film, four such survivors share their experiences: Matilde de la Sierra, a Guatemalan physician; Blama Massaquoi, a former Liberian child soldier; Hector Aristizabal, a Colombian actor; and Don Vance, an American former contractor in Iraq. Filmmakers Ines Sommer and Kathy Berger set out to counter the "blind spot" in our national conversation about torture by focusing on survivors' personal stories, insights and struggles. This event is co-sponsored by the Film & Video Studies and Film & Media Studies.
