Summer Conservatory Display: Summer Edibles and Some Are Not

Saturday, April 28, 2012 - Sunday, September 23, 2012
10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Cost: Free

The conservatory in summer is a hot and steamy place, but edible plants will still be growing, despite the greenhouse effect. Plantings will be a mix of temperate and tropical fruits, vegetables, and spices. Familiar crops like potatoes, peppers, Swiss chard, and strawberries will rub shoulders with exotic plants like strawberry guava, dwarf bananas, taro, and yard long beans. Coffee, turmeric, star fruit and pitanga fruits will add tropical flair and will definitely be able to take the heat.
