What makes The Gazette unique is that every community in the counties we cover has its own hometown newspaper with its own editor and reporters. The result: thorough, unparalleled coverage of local news - like schools, sports, crime and community events.

And this local coverage wins national awards - consistently. In 2007, for the 1oth year in a row, a Gazette edition was received a "Newspaper of the Year" by Suburban Newspapers of America (SNA.)

As the local, hometown newspaper, The Gazette runs wedding, engagement and anniversary announcements free, making your neighbors more likely to find their names in our papers. Today, we reach about 1.5 million readers. This makes The Gazette a perfect vehicle for businesses of all sizes to reach customers, and potential customers.

Our newspapers boast readership as high as 90 percent, and seven out of 10 people read the ads.* As a community newspaper, The Gazette delivers effective response for advertisers: Nearly half of the adults in the Washington area turn to community newspapers FIRST for shopping information.**

The Gazette's commitment to the communities we serve also encompasses annual donations to more than 100 nonprofit organizations. In 2006, we donated neary $2 million in cash advertising space to nonprofit community groups.

The Gazette also partners with its employees to donate labor hours to local groups. More than 35 Gazette employees mentor students on a weekly basis during the school year at Viers Mill Elementary School in Wheaton, dedicating over 1,200 hours annually to this cause alone.

Members of The Gazette community serve directly on local boards and commissions, including those of Strathmore Hall Arts Center, the universities at Shady Grove, Leadership Montgomery, numerous Chambers of Commerce, the Prince Georgeās Educational Foundation, the Olney Theatre, and the Montgomery County Branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.

In 2006, The Gazette was recognized as an "Excellent Place to Work" by the Maryland Work/Life Alliance during its first-ever Workplace Excellence Awards. The Gazette has also won six "Great Place to Work" awards from the Maryland WorkLife Alliance.
